Will your 26mm Tackform mounts work with my existing 1” rubber balls from RAM Mounts?Yes, our Tackform 26mm component will work with other brands of 1” rubber balls such as RAM. Note that if you are using your GRIP’R in highly dynamic applications where it will be subjected to significant shock and vibration, we highly recommend our 26mm metal ball components from Tackform as opposed to rubber balls.
-
Do I really need to use the aluminum backing plate when mounting my GRIP’R to an ATV fender?Yes. Without the aluminum backing plate, the stresses would be too much on the plastic fender, potentially resulting in the cracking or breaking of the fender.
-
How do you properly attach the GRIP’R mounting bracket using the 3M VHB double stick tape? The mounting bracket is typically used on flat, vertical surfaces. The 3m VHB (Very High Bond) tape is an excellent option if used correctly. The surface that you’re mounting to must be cleaned with the provided alcohol pad and the surface that you’re attaching to must be smooth such plastic, glass or fiberglass, for example. We do not suggest the tape option if mounting to porous sub straights such as wood or drywall, or textured surfaces for example. The included sand paper should be used on the face of the mounting rail as well as the sub straight to which you are mounting. Once applied, the mount should NOT be used for at least 24 hours to let the tape bond to its maximum strength. For maximum holding capacity, we recommend that purchase a pen or a small can of 3M Primer 94 and apply a light film of liquid to both the mounting rail and the surface that you’re attaching the mounting bracket to, prior to applying the tape.
-
Why does the standard mounting rail lock my GRIP’R onto the mount? This feature was originally designed in for highly dynamic applications such as boats and ATV’s to prevent your GRIP’R and beverage from falling due to the extreme shock and vibration. GRIP'R performs excellent and never detaches from its mounting bracket once locked in. It is virtually impossible for the GRIP’R to come off the mounting rail without the user physically depressing the release tab prior to lifting it off the mounting rail.
-
Why did you partner with Tackform and what’s different about their mounts from other manufacturers? We did considerable testing of various manufacturers mounting assemblies and simply found that the 26-Series components from Tackform are the best for our GRIP’R applications, especially in dynamic application such as boating, motorcycles, ATV’s etc., where your GRIP’R is subjected to shock and vibration. Their balls and other components are all machined aluminum and provide a very rigid hold in a nice and compact package. On top of that, their customer service is outstanding!
-
Can I get a mounting rail that is non-locking?Currently we don't have a non-locking mounting rail. However, should you want a non-locking mounting rail, a DIY solution is to cut off the locking tab at the bottom of your rail with a tin snip or other such cutting device. GRIP'R is currently is in the prototyping process of creating the perfect size mini mount. We will be sure to announce it's availability on social media and the website when available.
-
When I’m using my GRIP’R as a mug handle for my beverage as opposed to having it mounted, why is the handle so big?Keep in mind that your GRIP’R Original was, first and foremost, designed as a mount that will hold practically any beverage, tapered or non-tapered with a surround that folds down and out of the way when not in use. The larger/longer handle was required such that houses the drop-down arm which is needed to support non-tapered containers. Never fear, one of our very next products is going to be the GRIP’R Mini which, as the name implies, has a significantly smaller handle that will also be able to be attached to our mounting rail. The GRIP’R Mini will not include a drop-down arm so it may only be used on tapered beverage containers.
-
What is the purpose of the drop-down arm on the GRIP’R ?It was originally designed to add extra support for non-tapered beverage containers, which is does very well, but may also be used with tapered beverage containers to better support your drink, especially in high dynamic applications such as on a boat or ATV. Anytime you have a bumpy ride on land or sea, utilize the drop-down foot for extra support.
-
Do I really need the locking feature of my mounting rail?Other than highly dynamic applications such as mounting your GRIP’R to an ATV, for example, you do not need the locking feature of the mounting rail, as it is virtually impossible for your GRIP’R to bounce up and off the rail under normal use. One of the biggest benefits of the locking feature is that, when mounted, the locking feature holds onto your GRIP’R so that when you try to pull your beverage itself out of your GRIP’R, the lock keeps your GRIP’R secure to the rail. Without the lock, your GRIP’R, along with your beverage, will likely come off the rail as you attempt to pull just the beverage out of the GRIP’R.
-
What is the minimum and maximum diameter beverage container that I can use with my GRIP’R?The adjustable surround goes from 2 ¾” up to a 4” diameter container.
-
Is GRIP’R patented?Yes. United States utility patent US 2022/0110468 A1
-
Can I buy my Tackform mounts from GRIP’R or do I have to get them from Tackform? It really doesn’t matter. All of the Tackform mounts for GRIP’R have their own specific part numbers and are available for purchase, at the same price, from either website.
-
Can I mount my GRIP’R rail mount directly to my clutch/break assembly?Theoretically you can however, because your GRIP’R rail mount is plastic, we don’t recommend it as it may not provide the same holding force as aluminum when it comes to holding your clutch or brake assembly in place.
-
How heavy of a beverage/container can my GRIP’R handle?GRIP’R was designed to a minimum spec of 4G’s. So, your 30-ounce tumbler attached to your ATV fender will be just fine! Remember to use the drop-down arm, even when using a tapered beverage container, when you’re using your GRIP’R in highly dynamic applications such as on a boat or ATV.
-
What is the best way to place my beverage container into the surround of my GRIP’R?Firmly cranking on the turnbuckle dial while your beverage is in the surround is not suggested as it could strip the internal teeth on the straps or pinion gear itself. You should roughly set the desired diameter of the surround based on the diameter of the beverage container that you are holding and them gently but firmly push your beverage container down into the surround as you pull the surround up with your fingers. You’ll get the hang of it in about 30 seconds!
-
If I mount my GRIP’R to either fender of my ATV, won’t it be in the way as I’m riding?Never say never but in all of our testing with all of the major brands and sizes of ATV’s, your GRIP’R is sufficiently out of the way and in almost all cases, one would have to go out of their way to even touch the GRIP’R with their leg or knee. This excludes small miniature ATV's for children.
-
When should I use Tackform mounts as opposed to just using the GRIP’R mounting rail? The GRIP’R mounting rail is for use in mounting to relatively vertical surfaces only. Typically, any mounting surface that is not vertical would require Tackform’s articulating components in order to create a vertical orientation for your mounting rail. Bar rails, such as when mounting your GRIP’R to your motorcycle handle bars, will also require the use of certain Tackform components.
-
Should I attach my mounting rail with the 3M VHB tape or should I use hardware? The best long-term solution for attaching the GRIP’R mounting bracket is by using nuts & bolts or screws depending on your application. The 3m tape is a great solution, especially if you don’t want to drill holes in the mounting surface. If done correctly, the 3M tape will hold your GRIP’R even in dynamic applications such as boating.
-
Will my GRIP’R work with other manufacturers 1” (25.4mm) rubber ball assemblies?Yes and no. In static to moderately dynamic applications, 1” rubber ball assemblies will work just fine assuming that you use the shortest arms possible for your application. Using 1 ½” rubber ball components work best. In any dynamic application, we strongly suggest using the drop-down arm, even when supporting/holding a tapered beverage container.
